2012年5月16-18日，第三届“中澳小麦遗传育种论坛”在河北省石家庄举行。此次论坛分别由河北省植物转基因中心主任王海波博士任中方主席、西澳大学闫桂军博士任澳方主席。

去年5月24-26日，笔者在北京举行的首次中澳小麦遗传与分子育种研讨会上，做了题为“小麦分子育种应注意的几个问题”的报告。其中谈到：1）理论上经过多代自交可获得纯系，但现实操作中却不可能实现，一般一个品种不是一个基因型。由传统做法创造的近等基因系不是真正的近等基因系，要想获得真正的近等基因系，所用的轮回亲本需经过单倍体加倍。2）转基因、分子标记选择导入的目标基因的功能，未必能如育种者所期望的那样表现出来，认识“基因的社会学原理”很重要。3）孟德尔因子所表示的基因远比DNA序列表示的基因复杂，从DNA序列到性状，有很多构成性状表达的元素在分子遗传学中没有覆盖到。
2011年8月23日至29日，植物转基因中心主任王海波赴澳大利亚参加了“全澳小麦育种大会”和“第二届中澳小麦遗传育种论坛”、并参观考察了西澳大学、莫道克大学和CSIRO的植物学研究所。
